Before joining the School of Natural Skincare, I had just left my corporate job to have my second child and knew I didn’t want to return to the corporate world. Postpartum hair damage became a challenge, and in Addis Ababa, there were no locally-made, quality natural haircare products. This frustration sparked my desire to create something not just for myself, but for other women who faced the same issues.
Discovering the School of Natural Skincare [Diploma in Natural Haircare Formulation] was a turning point. The flexibility of studying at my own pace, especially with a newborn, was perfect. The course’s content, particularly understanding the biology of hair and the practical formulation exercises, was enlightening and empowering. It gave me confidence and clarity in my new venture.
Starting my brand, Curl Love, was initially a tentative experiment with a simple hair mask. The positive feedback from those first few users was overwhelming. The brand has since grown, introducing more products and becoming a household name in Addis for natural haircare.
Curl Love is like my daughter, crafted with love and intention. We use upcycled jars in collaboration with a female-led company, emphasizing sustainability. The joy of creating authentic, effective products and seeing real results is immensely fulfilling. The School of Natural Skincare helped me harness my creativity and knowledge, allowing me to turn a personal struggle into a thriving business that contributes to women’s wellness and self-care.
This journey has been everything to me. It’s not just about learning a new skill and having to have the freedom of creating my own company and brand.
I’ve been able to be more of a present mom and be there in my personal life. I’ve been able to bring an energetic and excited person home. I’ve been able to teach my sons how to formulate with me, so it’s so much more than just getting a diploma and doing something with it.
I can say it [Diploma in Natural Haircare Formulation] really changed my life and it changed everything about how I feel about myself and no, you cannot put a price on that. Not at all. And I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
